K-Wednesday: Falling by John Park

First of all, we apologize for not posting a K-Wednesday last week. But to make it up to you guys here is our review of a song that most people have probably not heard of: John Park’s Falling

Here’s a little background on John Park. John Park is an American, born in Illinois, with Korean descent. During the middle of his college life, he was studying economics at Northwestern University, he decided he wanted to start his singing career. To jump-start his journey toward his dream he auditioned for a spot on the TV show American Idol season 9. John Park was highly successful in this show and made it into the top 20 but was unfortunately eliminated after he sang John Mayer’s “Gravity”.

After John Park was eliminated from American Idol he decided to try his luck in the Korean entertainment market by auditioning for the Korean version of American Idol, Superstar K2. Here John Park became the runner-up, barely losing to Huh Gak (his music is also good, I recommend “I Told You I Wanna Die”, hmm potential K-Wed?).

Currently John Park is continuing with his singing career and has produced many popular singles.

Well now that we have a little background info, let’s get onto the MV.

John Park’s voice in this is amazing the slow tempo matched with his amazing falsetto is breathtaking. The lyrics portray a person’s longing for love even though they know they won’t receive it. During that time it feels like your falling and there is nothing you can do about it. You can’t reverse gravity or grab onto something, all you can do is just fall and hopefully you will survive in the end and get up from it all.

The setting of this video was pretty cool. Who would have known a cargo container would be a nice setting for a MV. Well what that cargo container has going for it is it’s simplicity. All that’s in the container is John Park and a few miscellaneous items.

Where did the feathers come from?

My favorite part of the MV would have to be the part after the cargo container was dropped and everything started floating in the air. What I find amazing about it is that it actually takes a substantial amount of time after the container is dropped for things to start floating. It’s like after a certain amount of time falling, gravity just ceases to have as much of an effect and you get to float.

Also after that scene the container falls into the ocean and starts filling up with water. What really confuses me is how the container ended up on the shore of the beach. Shouldn’t it be in the bottom of the ocean?

But in any case this is still a great MV and a great song. We hope to hear more from John Park.
